re: high-dollar sales (was Re: [RC] [RC] buying, selling, breeding, producing) - A. PerezHorses DO sell for the big-bucks here in the US, but not endurance horses: endurance is not the 'sport of choice' for the elite. Dressage, jumping and eventing are: look at the prices the European Warm-bood breeds fetch (trakeners, holsteiners, dutch warm-bloods, Oldenburgs etc). Just for yucks, I went to dreamhorse.com and searched on horses sold in the last 90 days where the asking price was 20,000 or more. I was surprised at the number of paints and quarter horses that came up. What was not surprising was that most of the horses I looked at had perfornace records: the big $$ is for what they have done, not what they might do in the future. When one looks at the cost of raising, training and campaigning a horse, I doubt there is much if any profit involved. There is probably more profit to be made in selling babies, but to sell them for good $$, you need to have some adults of the same breeding who have gone on to be winners... so the costs of training and campaigning are still there. I don't think rich horse-breeders got rich breeding horses - they are rich people who happen to breed horses as a hobby: like the old joke says: "How to make a small fortune raising horses: start with a large fortune!" ________________________________________________ Get your own "800" number Voicemail, fax, email, and a lot more http://www.ureach.com/reg/tag =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
