[RC] buying, selling, breeding, producing - rides2farRiders tell me all the time how somebody sold a horse for $100,000 and yet that hasn't been what this group has said.Everybody seems to know somebody who sold a horse for tons of money, and yet I haven't read that at all on this thread. What's the deal? They don't buy horses who "are bred to do well" or "are built to do well" cause talk's cheap. They buy horses who have *already* done well. They let the seller take the risk, find the horse, do the work, deal with all the ones who don't pan out, spend *time* as in years, then they're willing to pay for a sure thing. If you're good enough to not take any dead ends, buy the wrong horses, break them down, etc. and it's something you *want* to do, there might be money in it in the long run but some people just sell them their "I got lucky, horse of a life time". Others are good enough at picking a promising prospect and getting their attention quickly. They've studied the market and know who to impress. Some people slipped lame horses in on them and sold them one horse. Others were straight with them and have sold more than one. It's business. If you actually added up the hours you spent on a horse good enough for them to want, $25000 might not look like *that* much money, but if you would just as soon sell that one and start over again I guess it's a heck of a lot.
