Re: [RC] [RC]Horse Buying/Selling - Ed & Wendy Hauser"... we should only be considering how many endurance horses there are in the world..." Of course the other side is: What is the size of the market for endurance horses? If I remember the AERC has about 3000 members. If the average endurance competitor has 2 horses and they last an average of 5 years the total market would be 1200 horses per year. I can't remember what the total number of horses registered each year is, but 1200 seems to me to be a rather small part of the market. Ed PS. Don't get me wrong in this discussion. I personally try to purchase geldings that are: Well bred, good looking, have great conformation, and are suited for the sport. I am willing to pay much more than trail horse prices, but not any more than I have to. My remarks have been totally related to my understanding of economics, and human nature. Around the places I have lived the easiest way to increase the value of a horse, in today's market, is to make it spotted, have flashy color (pinto etc.) or gaited. Spots, white and gaited don't mean much on an endurance ride. I do hope that in the future the buyers of endurance horses become more informed consumers and thus more willing to pay for exceptional endurance prospects. I am just not holding my breath. Wendy says I have become a cynic in my old age.
