[RC] Skin sensitivity - Budler,Cindy - Afrox

I remember someone saying a while back as an aside that they wondered how
many of our horses are not spooky due to "magnesium deficiency".

My friend has a gelding that is been a problem for a long time and we are
now grasping at straws
Here is the history.

A 6 year old gelding- English/Crabbett breeding, brought on very slowly-
lots of ground work, lots of very easy handling, bred herself, a very laid
back horse on the ground, BUT a while back in the early backing process he
dumped her VERY badly- they think a long grass stalk they walked pased
touched him on the belly- he went ballistic and bucked her off and ran
around the neighbourhood before coming home- saddle and stirrups flying
etc.Very stressful for bothof them.

They went back to very slow work again and after a while got back on and
all seemed fine, except very spooky, very uptight and kept on spooking from
rear- dropping hind end and taking off.
Finally through deductive process figured out it was when there was a breeze
and his tail(very long) would blow onto his belly, legs.
Don't laugh- but they cut his tail short and no more spooking for a few
weeks.
Gave him time off, and then back to 3 months or so of groundwork and
basics.
Backed again and he is much better, but still VERY reactive to a breeze-
this is the only horse I have ever seen who when coming out of the shelter
of some trees and feeling the slight breeze on his skin will jump and get
all tense!

Question - Could he have some form of nerve problem/nerve-ending
problem/deficiency that causes a very sensitive skin ?

My friend is a very analytical and scientific type and can't see the point
of just flooding him in "calming" vitamins, minerals etc without at least
having some form of logical reason for it.
