[RC] [RC] Supracor Saddle Pads - Libby & Quentin Llop DVMHi All: We are enthusiastic users of the Supracor: we have six in use. (Until we got the English FLAIR saddles we would not saddle a horse without one. They empower the shoulders to glide under the saddle and pump cooling air on the back. A full discussion of their advantages is another post.) The two problems that we have seen are managed thus: 1) Some horses, TB's in our barn, carry their withers further back under the saddle. This leads to a rub on the last curve. After discussing the problem with the Director of Research at the manufacturer, we have cut windows in some of our pads. The Windows measure 3.5 x 1.75" (long side parallel to withers) and are cut 3.5" back from the front of the pad. The convex curve of the top of the withers peeks thru when riding. The windows do not seem to affect the longevity of the pads; one of the pads has begun to separate behind the window, and we have added a piece of duct tape crosswise. This has solved the problem. (We cut the window hole carefully with a sharp kitchen knife.) 2) Under some conditions the pads will migrate, and not all of the styles have tie rings. For the Coolgrip pads, we bluntly poke thru the pad opposite the saddle's D's to add cord ties. Libby stocks multiple styles & sizes of the pads, & we can discuss your needs. She sells the Coolgrips for $169. -----Original Message----- From: ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:ridecamp-owner@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Michelle Fink Sent: Monday, July 19, 2004 6:37 PM To: ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: Re: [RC] [RC] Supracor Saddle Pads Hi Phil, My mare had troubles with a supracor coolgrip endurance (the long cut pad). The way the wither was cut made the pad ride down too tight on her wither about 4-6" back from the front of the pad. I pull the pad up into the saddle gullet as far as possible, but still couldn't fit her well with one. I knew something was bothering her and changed saddles more than once thinking it was a saddle problem. Unfortunately I didn't find the real problem until the Supracor pad started to delaminate at that seam from the pressure. :-( I still use a Supracor on my geldings... Just gotta use a woolback on my mare. Happy trails, Michelle (Colorado) =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
