Having the item shipped COD is certainly a possibility. The problem is you could then get a box of rocks not the item. You could open the box in the presence of the delivery driver to check for "hidden or concealed damage". If upon quick examination it is not about what you ordered, refuse to accept delivery. I have bought saddles that I found by placing a wanted add. The seller openly shared a valid phone number and address in his opening email. I checked the phone (directory services- won't work on unlisted numbers) and called him. When he seemed legit I took a chance. Worked fine, as most people are honest.
