Re: [RC] Horse Buying - 'Trust Me' - rides2farLet me see if I follow this Angie. I am to buy a horse without a vet exam under the assumption there is> nothing wrong because he has done a few rides? Didn't say that. Just said "Pass/Fail" system will make you pass on some good horses. No matter the price? Did anybody mention price? Buy a pig in a poke? Did anybody mention a horse they hadn't had a chance to examine? Then you would never sell a horse to a rider who actually wanted to do a pre-purchase exam? Just take your word for it - 'there is nothing wrong with this horse" - yeah sure going to do that .. Need not worry about that - I would NEVER buy a horse from you or anyone who would NOT agree to a vet exam.. > including x-rays. I think I mentioned several situations where I have sold horses with prepurchase exams, including x-rays, just said that's not necessarily the first person I'd call if I had a "find". I've never told anyone they couldn't have a horse checked, by any vet they chose. I sort of like my horses to be at least sound?? Is it working out for you? Maybe that is the problem buying a horse local or from someone you know? It is awkward. I've bought from friends and I've looked at several friends horses this week. They were all good horses and just because they weren't right for me doesn't mean there was anything wrong with them. I'm flattered that they tell me they have one I can look at. So according to your logic I am to keep this horse not say anything about the exam. Just to not 'mark' a horse or offend a rider? Show me where I said that. What I said was it's a pain when *your* horse gets labeled as having a problem that had never been a problem in the past and might not in the future. I'm thinking of horses I've had checked, you're thinking of horses you've had checked. I'm sure every situation was different. I thought we were talking in generalities for all of RC or we'd talk specifically in private. BULLSHIT.. you want to pay for him and let me ride him? Heck no, you're unlucky. >dar< I am sure this horse can do a number of rides .. but how many for how> many years.? We never know. If we get a perfect one they'll probably step in a hole and break a leg. If a vet tells me of a risk, it's my job to weigh it and if I'm not willing to gamble I walk away. Not much I can do about it and your suggestions that I took the wrong action with a PP vet exam is bullshit... your comments below are typical... Careful Roger, people are going to think we're not friends. :-) What I said was: snip< If it were an ex race horse I'd like the coffin bone > x-rayed, and I like flex tests, but I do not want a vet to tell me what this > horse is "predisposed to" etc. etc. Too many "Ifs". If you'll notice there's absolutely nothing in there about what *you* should have done. Just a statement of what my personal preference is, and you'll notice it included a vet exam.
