Re: [RC] Flat croups (rides2far), and MY answer to a scammer - Chris PausThanks Maggie... A LOT of conformation faults can be overcome with good groceries and good, thoughtful exercise! As the musculature fills in, the horse's shape changes! It won't cure all, but I bought a gelding for his brain, not his looks. He was skinny, cow hocked, dip backed, and splay footed, and yes, flat crouped. This is the Babson bloodline horse, Zab, I talk about. There were people who laughed at me for buying that horse, but now I've got folks in line who want him if I ever sell him (and it would take a LOT to get him away from me). After a year of riding, working on his self carriage and doing lots of steep hill work on the trails, he started to look like a different horse. Now 3 years later, it's amazing. He's got muscle where he used to be bony. His legs look much better from the back.. amazing what some butt muscle does to straighten out cow hocks... his chest has developed and his front legs are better positioned. He moves like a dream and has all the power I, a heavy weight rider, need. I call him my little Arab ATV. One of my friends commented, "wow, it looks like that horse has been to the butt store and bought himself one..." Yes, it's better to start out with ones that are built right in the first place! But sometimes poor nutrition and poor riding can enhance faults, and good riding and good groceries, diminish them... chris --- Maggie Mieske <mmieske@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: Just an observation but most of the "flat" croups I have seen are a result of fat deposits and once conditioned are gone on an endurance horse. Perhaps that's why we don't see flat croups on our high mileage horses. :) Miles of Smiles, Maggie Mieske mmieske@xxxxxxxxxxxxx http://arabianquest.com/samaha_arabians.htm "So many of our dreams seem impossible, then improbable, then inevitable."
