Re: [RC] the healing process and proud flesh - Maryanne Stroud GabbaniI guess that puts us in the departure lounge! We always have fly problems and I recently had a mare lose most of the the skin and the top half inch of her left ear when she foolishly leaned too close to another mare with a new foal in a neighbouring paddock. It looked horrendous, but as I told the boys, "Horses don't walk on their ears, after all". We washed it with a mild cleanser and then smeared A&D ointment and some nice pink Swat on the ear. Dory was entirely unappreciative of our efforts initially, but she soon relaxed to allow the smearing. It healed beautifully in about a month and now you can only tell that one is a tiny bit shorter than the other. My preference is to do the absolute minimum.
