Some kind of super strength velcro? Maybe put some halfway around your bucket.Then have the other part sewn on some webbing strap and make a "loop" around the bucket with it?I can visualize it a,I just can't draw it!!! Try Home Depot or automotive stores.That stuff is strong if you get a good bond. Then you could tie the webbing thru the stock side or rivet it to the side or use more velcro and have it loop around the bottom of the bucket.
I consider Velcro as reuseable duck tape. Laurie

Thanks, Karen, these are some great suggestions. You mention mischievous
horses: do you (or anyone) have any ideas about how to water a horse in the
trailer who habitually picks up his buckets and flings them around? Akela
likes to dump buckets (of water or anything else) just to see if some very
tasty, but otherwise mysteriously unavailable, morsel should drop out or...
just to annoy the rest of us.

I've got a stock trailer but the opening is too high to hang one of those
circular bucket holders (the kind that the whole bucket fits into).  Might
be, I guess that the only answer is you don't hang water inside the
trailer...sigh.
