Re: [RC] Testing Saddle Fit - Kristene SmutsMy biggest problem now is mounting>> Me too. But even when I am feeling energetic and have a bit of spring in my knees that day, I would still find a mounting place. I reckon it's the least I can do for the horse - not to pull him off balance with my weight. Also, mounting from the ground all the time pulls their spine out of alignment, over time. Also a good reason to mount and dismount from both sides. <<And I have to attribute most of that to good backs, as I'm not the spiffiest of riders.>> Neither am I, but I try very hard! It has also been my experience that when one has horses with good backs, shopping for saddles is not difficult.>> Ibn is very mutton withered with a large barrel, so although the saddle won't easily move back (with the loose girth), it would move forward over his shoulders if we're going down hill. Am still playing with putting a crupper on. We're very fortunate that we have a saddle maker who makes wonderfully balanced saddles. He and his wife ride endurance (she's a national team member) and he works very closely with other top riders. BTW, you doing night duty?
