[RC] horse behavior at 1st 50 - rides2farThis horse never used to be that way, and I'm wondering why she is changing. I've also ridden in group rides where leaving the > pack was never a problem so why now? Is there something about a 50 that makes > them insecure? I truly believe they learn the game, the understand the concept of a *race* and they want to win. When a horse wants to leave a big herd at the vet check that's eating, because he sees a horse heading back out on the trail and you can tell he's ticked that they're getting a head start, it's not a matter of herd bound. I've fought this attitude for 10 years. At the last 3 rides I intentionally missed the start to try to start slower. The first two times I fooled him. The third time he figured it out and was *furious* and pitched a holy fit. It's not an "I've got to be in front" thing. It's an "I want to go down the trail looking for another horse to pass" thing. Good luck. Angie ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Surf the web up to FIVE TIMES FASTER!
