[RC] speak up if you see abuse (was '... from the Horses Perspective') - A. PerezJim wrote: "I've witnessed folks truly abuse their animals in this sport to gain this recognition. I watched riders enter consecutive rides with the same horse and literally ride their horse to death in pursuit of a coffee cup, a horse blanket or to get their name on a piece of wood and brass. I know of a rider out here that had a phenomenal horse that won several 50's in a row. Then, one day that horse died in his arms the night after an endurance race. I wonder if he got a vision of his horse's perspective then? " Did anyone ever tell these riders that they thought they were over riding their horse? Or lodge a complaint with the rider manager? Sometimes you just need to butt in... may not help, but at least you can try. May lead to an uncomfortable exchange of words and someone getting miffed at you, but does that REALLY matter? I recently posted here asking for advice about teenage girls hot-rodding their horses at the farm where I baord. Shortly thereafter I ran into one of their mother's at the local tack store. I discussed my concerns with her. she did not take offense, and said she was aware of the issue and was keeper an eye on her daughter. No hard feelings as far as I could tell.
