[RC] Bruised Frog - rides2far*I am guessing "Ichthamol", not exact spelling. It is some sort of smelly,> fish-based> ointment stuff...also used to put on outside of leg bandages...apparently tastes> so bad it keeps horses from chewing bandages off...but I believe it > is also> a drawing agent. Ichthammol is WONDERFUL. If you get an infected cut put it on there and the pain is gone soo quickly. I'd be surprised if it's fish based. It smells like asphalt. One more use for it I heard was that my vet said if you massage it in around the coronary band it increases the blood flow to the area and will speed hoof growth. Never tried it. For an abcess I just put a big dollup on a piece of gauze, put it on bottom of the hoof and wrap with duct tape. Easier than standing around soaking in epsom salts. Do not put it inside an easyboot. It desolved the heel strap on one of mine after a few days. Fiebing's hoof packing smells like Ichthammol in a sort of clay base. They recommend putting it in the hooves after a rocky ride to draw out soreness. I actually did that for awhile and then ran out and never bought more.
