RE: [RC] [RC] [RC] re: 'Talking is, IMO, unacceptable. - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Nicole z_arabs@xxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== With regard to the "Help, I'm alone!" vocalization--I would submit that if a mare or gelding persists in that sort of behavior, they likewise are not yet ready to be in that circumstance. I agree that this is something that I do expect to stop with time and experience. It's all in the situation, not a blanket statement of this-is-bad vs this-is-good. I happen to have a vocal group of horses. They talk to each other constantly at home and talk to me constantly as well (and that's not all food-driven as they will call to me when it's not feeding time). They are also a tightly knit group. I have no problems with separating one out and riding alone (I mostly ride alone). But, I'm well aware of horses that like to talk and just say "Hi!!" to each other -- actually the loudest time is when I return from a trail ride and all the horses at home feel the need to greet their returning friend (and they're the worst when it's the stallion returning). So, of course, it's no surprise when a normally vocal horse goes to it's first away-from-home experiences that it is vocal there as well. Luckily, it's one of those things that improves with time and experience. All that said, of course, a stallion isn't allowed to do even that since he's intact. That means a lot more experience has to be put on a stallion before his first competition to make sure he's ready to remain a perfect gentleman at all times. ~Nicole =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
