Or, as possibly in this case, the horse is simply bored to death, full of energy, and is acting out. I've seen my horses bump into the "wrong" herd member when turned loose - full of energy and rarin' to go, that horse might buck, throw some fake kicks at the lead mare, huff and puff, just "acting out" with no intentions of challenge or anything other than just living. Don't recall any of the other herd members getting particularly upset about it. Most often they just see it as an invitation to have fun.


While that isn't the same as spooking, it's still an example of doing what looks like the wrong thing, but isn't, because intent counts.
