Re: [RC] Hay into California for Tevis - Linda Hedgpeth
I will add that the last
couple of times I drove from Reno west to Susanville on Hwy 395, the inspection
into CA has been completely closed. They have cones out now, so
people won't leave the highway. I don't go to Reno often, but
since I moved to this area in 2000, the station has always been
open. Then, a few months ago, it seemed to be open less and
less with less staff around. These last two times, it has been
totally closed and blocked off.
I
don't know who posted that the Tevis STARTS in Nevada. IT MOST CERTAINLY
DOES NOT. The California agricultural inspection station is about 30 miles
inside the border from Nevada. The ride starts south of Truckee, about
7 miles south of town on Forest Road #6. Long and powder dust.
When your crew comes out of Truckee and heads west on I-80, there is an
agricultural inspection station there. It is my experience that the line
of rigs coming out of Tevis start from 4 am on is just PASSED THRU the
inspection station. The workers stand there waving their arms. They
have not stopped me or anyone I am aware of for years. Despite your
various license plates, they are fully aware that this group is rolling west to
crew for these riders and they don't interfere with any of that. They know that
you started from Robie Park. BTW- due to many budgets cuts here in Calif, the
11 or 15 border inspection stations have been entire unmanned for great periods
of time. I think there are still some that are wide open. Good
Luck to all Tevis
riders.
