Personally, I've always depended on the "Amusing remark" to get me through. If you have a pretty rediculous fall, witnessed by a large group of people the first words out of your mouth can make or break your reputation. The best remark lets everyone A: know you're O.K...and B: is an attempt at being humorous which gives them permission to laugh uproariously which they are probably desperately trying not to do.
