This is the key to most any horse problem, Nina. Good
work! There's no instant fixes, just common sense
work.

And for those who believe in the death grip, that's
the worst thing you can do with a spooky horse. 

A. clutching with your legs is like squeezing a tube
of toothpaste.. your horse is going to shoot forward.

B. Clutching reins and tightening your butt and
squeezing with legs is tension.. when you are tense,
you are telegraphing tht to the horse. Then he figures
something is really awful and he gets scared!

If your horse spooks at the same place every time,
chances are you are cueing him to spook there!

I found that this work really translated to his
being safer on the trails.  
He is braver and thinks things through, rather than
being reactive.  This 
took us some time.  It?s not an instant fix, but it
didn?t take months 
either.  Instead of spooking every month or two, he
now spooks every year or 
two and he spooks with his feet in place rather than
the shoulder shattering 
spin of yester -year.
