Re: [RC] [RC] spooking and spinning - Christina McCarthy

Wouldn't you know that after reading about spooking and spinning and learning to fall off correctly, I go out today on a trail ride on a different saddle (western endurance) which I am NOT accustomed to (i use a borrowed cutback ortho-flex) and proceed to be dumped!
Didn't see it coming, was trotting along nicely and the next thing I new was that JJ had jumped sharply to the right and was in the midst of the spin thing when I flew off (s-l-o-w motion)----Matrix like...I was most concerned about my stirrups getting free (they did). JJ ran off for about 800 feet or so but I called to his asking him to halt (which amazingly he did), and then "come", and he did that also! He's only just 4, and I have only been working with Him for about a month so I was really pleased he came back and was happy to see me! Anyway, so much for the power of suggestion, I will be more careful about what I read in the future before riding again..lol. Seriously though, I think balance is the issue here and I need more work on that...as well as the subtle signs that a spook is near!
