[RC] [RC]Sandhills Moonlight 100 - Timothy WordenSince Sharon mentioned Sandhills Moonlight ride in South Carolina on July 31st, just thought I'd put in a plug and drum up support. My horse and I will be attempting our first 100 at the Moonlight ride. Granted, it's no OD or Tevis trail, but it's still 100 friggin' miles. If this ride were during the day I may not consider attempting a 100, but riding through the night sure adds something to it...not to mention cooler in the heat of July. Besides, what other 100 mile ride has an entry fee of only $105. Most 50s I've done lately cost that much....I won't get started on that issue though. If you've got the horse for it and been kicking around the idea of riding your first 100...quit thinking and just do it. JD had 33 100milers at last years Carolina ride on Thanksgiving weekend....wouldn't it be awesome if he has 33 100 miles for his Moonlight ride. Come join me and keep these 100 mile rides supported so we don't lose them....did I mention the entry was only $105? I believe Tom Noll quoted something along the lines of, "There's something magical about riding at night on a 100miler with miles to go!!" The cool thing too is my wife is starting a 4y/o in the 25...so when she's done I get to keep her up all night crewing for me;) Tim and Knight of Morocco...aka Rocco - virgin 100milers North Carolina --- sangel15@xxxxxxxxxxxxx wrote: I am fairly new to this sport (3 50's in the past for training and a 25 and a 50 so far and scheduled for 4 more 50's this year), however my horse and I have been in training for several years and train at night at least once a month (full moon). Would like to try our first 100 soon. I have found that instead of using a head lamp or flash light with white or yellow light use a night vision light. It works much better and does not intefere with your or your horse's night vision. I thought about using this due to my work, as we use night vision goggles. I work as a medic on a rescue helicopter. When we use the goggles we have to use lights that will not ruin our night vision so I just modified a regular flash light for use on the trails. I'm usually alone so I don't know if it would bother other people but I wouldn't think so. If you are interested e-mail me privately and I'll figure out what you need to modify your lights. And good luck to all at Tevis. By the way is anyone going to the Carolina Moonlight Ride (SE)? Same weekend as Tevis.
