RE: [RC] sane future for spooky arab?? - heidiThis is true to some extent of just about every Arab I have ever known, more or less depending on his background. He is lacking in confidence and since Arabs are about the only breed that has not been "modified" by breeding for docility, it comes with the package. Like everything else, the "fire, intelligence, and athleticism" of an Arab come with a price. The survival instinct is very strong. Actually, the Arab HAS been altered--from the sane, dependable "in your tent" horse to a bug-eyed critter that flys around a show ring like an idiot. The original Arab WAS docile--the breed has sadly been selected AWAY from docility. In my experience, the old-line Arabs I've dealt with have had a huge amount of brains, common sense, and confidence to go with the "fire, intelligence, and athleticism." It is the increasing numbers of the ones who DON'T have these traits that I find alarming--the breed is being altered, all right, but not in a direction that lends itself to reliable riding.
