[RC] Gears (was tailgating) - Kristi SchaafHeidi wrote: JMHO, but endurance horses have >their "lower gears" greatly neglected for the most part, and that is one of the big reasons why they get out of control at starts, etc. And which is why it's too bad more endurance riders aren't interested in what NATRC provides - a way to create a fast walk and a relaxed trot, great manners, and lots of LSD, all while learning how to handle the chaos of a ride. Of course, many endurance riders know how to do that on their own, but NATRC is a great way for the rest of us to start a green horse and teach him the basics of being a trustworthy, responsive distance horse. I remember my first LD ride well; a woman on a jigging headflipping lathered horse was literally poking fun at me and my horse's 1,000 NATRC miles (as we calmly walked down the trail alongside her frenzied horse). I don't think she realized the irony in her comments, but I sure did. Kristi (who loves both sports) iluvdez at yahoo dot com __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New and Improved Yahoo!
