Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] invocation - Joe LongOn Tue, 06 Jul 2004 09:56:06 -0700, "Maddy Smart" <menageriecloud9@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: I personally don't have any objection to an invocation, just as long as it isn't very specific as to which God etc. But what if the RM doesn't want an invocation? Madeline-NW Then they don't have one. No ride is *required* to have an invocation; in fact, few rides do. I've never mentioned it before this discussion, as far as I know it's never come up on Ridecamp before. I jumped in when a couple of people demanded that rides not ever have invocations. I'm defending what I see as a harmless practice that some of us find beautiful, that IMO adds to the ambiance of a ride. If you've never been to the start of an Old Domion, it is a moving experience (and not just because of the invocation, although that helps). I understand that a few people are offended by it, although I frankly do not understand why they find it so offensive that they object to it. I believe the majority should not have to suffer for the objections of a few. My take on these things is summed up in the line I've been closing these posts with: Live and let live. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
