[RC] Buying West Nile Vaccine - Sharlene Roberts-CaudleI believe you can buy the vaccine from your vet
without problems. I'm in California and bought it
from my veterinarian--6 doses, 2 for each horse. They
were drawn up from a larger vial in individual doses
in syringes and labeled for $15 each. This was the
first time for WN but I always give vaccinations to my
horses, have never had a reaction but I researched to
make sure I gave it in a good spot--the neck is harder
to get still than the haunch. By the way, all these
years I always drew the plunger back to make sure I
wasn't in a vein--first time I saw blood was giving
the WN vaccine--of course I moved it.
When I talked to the Ft. Dodge people a year ago at
Mule Days, they said it wasn't being sold "over the
counter" because they were afraid that people would
buy it and give it to their kids!
