RE: [RC] [RC] WS 50 ACCIDENT WE WERE THERE - Lynn Kinsky
First you have to have a place to pull off! I had a similar experience at my first 50 attempt, at Pine Valley. I was half way down a rocky knife ridge trail when a hot shoe LD-er (and let's not go there -- I usually ride LD <g>) came zooming up on my mare's butt, and stayed there. She was freaking, but I didn't want her to kick (she had a red ribbon) -- not out of concern for the other horse, but because it could have sent both of us over the edge. There simply wasn't any place to pull off for a couple hundred yards -- and I screamed that at the guy, who refused to pull back. Eventually, we got to a point where I could find a few feet to perch on on the side of the trail and he zoomed on his way -- but not before ,my thoroughly distracted mare took a misstep in the rocks and got a suspensory pull that caused us to pull at the next vet check. The tailgater finished -- we didn't. --
