Hi Dyane -- the soil in parts of Nevada is really alkaline, plus they are at a higher altitude. Riding miles thru ankle deep alkaline soil in the hot sun can really contribute to scratches. They are now thru that part and should be okay, though I did see several horses that had scratches. During the week I was there, neither of my horses got scratches. It's much easier to prevent scratches than it is to treat them.
