For yourself, what I've found works better than anything is to take an antihistamine like Benadryl before going outside. I'm a gourmet treat as far as the skeeters are concerned, and while the Benadryl doesn't keep them from biting, it GREATLY reduces the itching and swelling. Sometimes you can even take it as soon as you come inside and it will still help.
