[RC] overheating/sponging on fly - rides2farif you'll practice you can sponge from *every* shaded puddle on the fly. Now this might be a problem....I am dealing with a 17 hand horse and need a truck bed to get on him. Not a problem, your sponge string will just need to be 10" longer than mine is...and you're not allowed to fall off. :-) Sponging on the fly directions: Wet sponge well before leaving camp...it's got to have some weight to it. Approach mudhole from left keeping a nice straight trajectory past it. As you come to it throw (don't drop) your sponge at it just as your get to it. As your horse passes your sponge lying in the mudhole let the forward momentum of your horse swing that sponge out behind you. *do not try to bring it up yet* Now swing that sponge back forward like a pendulum and at the height of the arc pop your wrist and with practice it will come flying back to your hand like a yo-yo. Sponge horse and watch for next mudhole. *****disclaimer: Author not responsible for riders who wrap sponge string around horse's hind leg, tail, small bushes, or other horses.
