Re: [RC] gas/diesel trucks - Barbara McCraryMy husband has driven a Dodge Ram diesel for many years, and now has a new one with 6-speed stick shift (loves it!) Diesels have a lot of torque; ours starts from a cold stand-still in 5th gear and pulls Donner Pass with a 20' gooseneck trailer w/LQs, 45 gallons of water and two horses in 5th gear, passing all other trucks on the road. But it doesn't do "get up and go". Diesels are power, not quick acceleration. Your husband's right. We figure the power is more important than the acceleration. We're not racing someone from the stop sign, we're pulling heavy loads over mountains! I have always driven gas powered cars and trucks and my husband says that is the nature of diesel, powerful but won't spin wheels and burn rubber from a standstill like a gas engine will.
