Re: [RC] re "making money on a ride" - Barbara McCrary
It WOULD be interesting for a true business
professional to discover IF money could be made on ride management. I
don't try to MAKE money, but I don't like losing it, either. By the time
the bills for vets, awards, food, sanitation, phone, park permits, and whatever
else are paid, the entry fees barely cover the costs. We do all the trail
clearing, the ride camp is on our own property, and we don't have to travel far
to set up the ride camp. However,
we do considerable off-road driving to flag trail and some
riding, as well. Fortunately, we don't have to pay people to staff the
ride, other than the vets. I would say that the awards and the vets are
the greatest costs. If you do manage a ride and work out the
cost-effectiveness of the same, you should write an article for Endurance News
that might help the rest of us.

I would be very surprised to learn of a ride making enough money to be
considered a business.
If this sport is to progress internationally -
this is an issue - Rides have to be 'business ventures' and make money.
I have not put on a ride. Yet, perhaps it is time..... so that I may
truly understand why they do not make money and to perhaps figure out how they
could. (I have a degree in international business - perhaps it is time
to put it to good use <smile>)
