Re: [RC] [RC] Bitting, shallow mouth - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Nicole z_arabs@xxxxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== We solved the same problem by going to a French-link snaffle. I really don't want a curb bit on some of my horses--they just don't need it, and I still want to be able to use a direct rein. We've had several fuss about regular snaffles, but not a one fuss about the French link. It's the only snaffle we use now. Ditto. I ride all mine in a French link snaffle. I have some that can go to "less" (sidepull or just a halter; which is how I start them prior to asking them to understand the bit, and some can do quite a bit of riding in the sidepull or halter), but all can and are ridden in the French link. I've got a gelding that can pull and be obnoxious. I occationally ride him in a hackamore (I've seen it called a "jumping hackamore," it has slightly longer shanks than the s-hack). I haven't quite decided what to use on him for competition. I am going to dig out a pelham from my hunter days and see what he's like in that. I have been eyeing the combo-bits from Mylar, but $100+ for a bit is a stumbling block for me, too. ~Nicole ============================================================ It is how we "feel" deep inside that matters, cause each of us knows the truth, regardless of how we try make it complicated. It just isn't. ~ Frank Solano ridecamp.net information: http://www.endurance.net/ridecamp/ ============================================================
