Re: [RC] Ca Breeders - heidi

Reference was made to Huckleberry Bey's trot. I saw him come into the
arena at Santa Barbara at high speed. Haha... he looked like a sewing
machine. He wasn't really going anywhere but those legs sure were
working fast. Our good endurance horses trot better than he did.
Please, don't give me a show ring trot because I want to go forward,
not up and down.

Boy howdy, you hit the nail on the head there, Bonnie! Going down the
trail, it isn't about how breathtaking the trot is--it is about how
smoothly it flows forward, so that it gains ground without impacting
either you or the horse unduly. If it "takes my breath away" I don't want
to be in the saddle!

(Yeah, the old Albert Harris thing again--about how the Arab's trot is
supposed to be long and low to the ground, and smooth, so that it doesn't
fatigue the rider...)

I don't think you have to join a gym or buy frilly outfits to get some
fitness. A decent set of shoes and a 15 minute dismount here and there
will help.
