Re: [RC] Letters to the World -- showing - Kristen A FisherThanks Bette for pointing this out. Some of us have quality horses that we compete with in many different venues, without big names, drugs, mistreatment or poor conformation in lieu of "type". I do think there are some breeders/judges out there that do not breed/pin what I prefer, but some people do, so to each their own. But to make sweeping generalizations about the drugs, mistreatment, etc is unfair to a large portion of the Arabian show folks, in my experience. I suspect this argument is had in every breed of every animal [ask a German Shepherd owner about "show lines" vs. "working lines"...] Also, according to the AHA itself, only 10% of Arabian horse owners participate in the show circuit. So they are aware of the other 90% of the Arab market and are trying to understand how to address it. They are also growing opportunities inside the show circuit due to the popularity of sport horse competition [there is now a dedicated AHA Sport Horse Nationals] AND one of the fastest growing parts of Arab competitions is working western [trail, reining, & working cow]. Kristen in TX PS Even inside shows, performance show people comment about the halter winners never being able to be ridden!! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bette Lamore" <woa@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, June 17, 2004 9:02 PM Subject: Re: [RC] Letters to the World -- showing There's been an awful lot of bashing of shows here-- At the risk of being flamed here-- there are many athletic Arabians competing in shows (and some also compete in competitive trail and endurance) ============================================================ If people would just think of the hoof as the foundation for the horse like a house foundation. when your horse plants his foot down in the ground and pushes forward if the foot isn't 100% balanced your chances of injury go up. ~ Paula Blair ridecamp.net information: http://www.endurance.net/ridecamp/ ============================================================
