RE: [RC] Sore back while training - Chris PausI keep going with Bextra daily and get synvisc injections every 6 months. It's that or a TKR... I couldn't take Celebrex or Vioxx. lThey did awful things to me. Bextra is in the same class of drugs, but for some reason, it gets along with me fine. Although my insurance co. hates it cause it's expensive... The synvisc has worked wonders too. Before I got the injections and started on Synvisc, I couldn't walk across my living room without being in dire pain. Now I can ride again. I'm not sure if I can do a 50, but I can do 25s and have fun. chris --- Laurie Underwood <laurieunderwood@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: I quit taking it. Started taking Celebrex for awhile and going to physical therapy, and missed the next ride. Gradually my knee got strong enough to handle riding again, but it was ugly for awhile - my leg was going numb. Didn't keep me from riding, but it did cause me to slow down some or risk going off. I now take only Tylenol and even then I don't exceed the recommended dosage. My pharmacist friend believes that your protocol probably causes some degree of kidney damage. She told me that I had probably sustained some as well. All I know is that it scared me enough that I quit taking more than the recommended dosage. And BTW, my orthopedic surgeon told me that when he has patients for whom he prescribes elevated levels of ibuprofen, after 2 or 3 weeks he has the patient tested for kidney damage. [And to think I thought I invented that LOL] So what did you do? Switch to Aleve [kidding!] I only do rides once a month - maybe - and only have on VC [for now...] I figure I take 4, then 3 hours later take 4 more, then repeat 3 hours later. After that I medicate only when needed. So if you take Advil pretty steadily for a couple days a month then hardly take any at all... I learnedthat after I wrecked myknee in a car accident. I'd been popping Advillike candy -- fourbefore the ride, four at every vet stop, fourafter the ride, etc. Apharmacist friend was horrified, so I went to thedoctor, and so was he.He had a patient who actually ended up with kidneyreplacement afterODing on Advil over a two-year period.
