[RC] rider size vs. horse size - Ed Kilpatrick

hi john,  so if you are a newbie, do you  plan to do some endurance rides?  or just trail  riding.   you dont have to have an arab or arab cross, unless that is what you want.  many other breeds and types of horses will work for you in endurance riding as well as trail riding.  as for the size of the horse,  there is no set formula.  a lot depends on the build of the horse.  i have seen guys your size on anything from 13.2 hand mustangs to 16.2 hand thoroughbreds. my father-in-law is 6' 2" and 280 lbs.  he rides a 14.3 hand paso fino mare that weighs about 950.  they are a good match. pick a horse that has the look you like.    ed
