Since the grass wasn't up to any great extent yet, we had hay at the checks for the Cavalry riders. So it could be done in the West. We only had one entry. The other part of Cavalry is human needs - you got to carry everything you need. If your horse springs a shoe, you fix it or you pull. However, we had water at all checks for all riders at the Classic. I think the OD supplies water to the Cavalry riders. After all today it's not all that safe for a rider to dip now at a creek and drink out of it. Truman It's not that drastic. If you have to get help you have to drop out of competition for the Cavalry Award, but you just drop back into the regular ride and can still complete that. I'm not sure who thought of it first. OD calls it "Cavalry" and the Race of Champions called it "Solo Division." The ROC put white tape "x"s on the rider number, if a rider dropped out of Solo they just pulled off the tape. -- Joe Long jlong@xxxxxxxx http://www.rnbw.com ============================================================ I can tell you after sleeping in a tent, then in my truck, then in the back of a trailer, then in a gneck trailer w/no LQ, and now in the new-to-me LQ one, you don't sleep any better the night before in nicer digs - you're just more comfortable while you're lying there obsessing :) ~ Tina Hicks ridecamp.net information: http://www.endurance.net/ridecamp/ ============================================================
