I rode my first 75 mile
competition at Mount Adams in Washington last Saturday. My right shin
started hurting me, and I thought I was developing a splint. However,
after some more riding the left shin began hurting, and the outside of my ankle
on the right did too. When I finally looked at them the next day, they
were
bruised (bigger area than
a hand on the shins - larger on the right). I am thinking that the muscles
tore some, and bled into the tissue. Has anyone else experienced this, and
if so, any suggestions as to what to do to prevent it, other than not
riding? Do I need to do some specific exercise to build them up? I did
adjust my stirrups, and when I lowered them, the pain was less, higher was
worse.
It was a beautiful ride, and
friendly management. Thanks to all responsible. The vet cheered me
in, just like she said she would.
From the 75 mile turtle of
Mount Adams. I got told so many times by the people at
check points that they were worried about me, that I told them that they
were making me wonder if I should be worried myself. I
was pretty much right on my target of 6 MPH
overall.
