[RC] Swiss boots and Easywalkers - Ridecamp GuestPlease Reply to: Sheila Larsen Sheila_Larsen@xxxxxxx or ridecamp@xxxxxxxxxxxxx ========================================== I used Swiss boots for over a year when trying the barefoot thing. The secret is a good fit, which required shrinking them to the hoof with a heat source-hobby hot gun or hair dryer. They stayed on quite well even cantering up hill. Don't panic if you try them and when you remove them it appears that the heel bulb looks pink or compressed, my mare never was sore. You may need to put holes in the heel of the boot to allow water to escape. Depending on the horse you may also want to cut out toe slots. The toe slots really seemed to help keep the shoe on as it gave a place for the toe to seat. One person I know had trouble riding 50s with them because eventually the horse got rubs around the coronary band, so watch for that. Easy to put on and easy to take off. Easywalkers- I have only used one set and did not recess the clips-big mistake. My mare does not move perfectly and the shoes shifted because the clips broke off. They only lasted 4 weeks but again my friend had them on her horse for 6 weeks and I believe did a 50 in them, but at any rate put the miles on them. I think the footing makes a huge difference in the wear. I am going to try them again, but if you e-mail the company with questions they are very responsive. I like the traction, enough without being grabby, but I still use steel behind. Hopefuly your farrier will get quicker at putting them on LOL. My farrier likes them as they are easy to put on, but she hasn't recessed the clips yets so maybe that will take longer. My mare moves really nicely in any synthetic/plastic shoe. ===========================================================There are few places where the horse does not fit in; at least in my world, as delusional as that one may be. ~ Howard Bramhall ridecamp.net information: http://www.endurance.net/ridecamp/ ===========================================================
