[RC] Jo Tate Memorial Ride - kc85124The endurace award for this ride goes to the ride manager Jodi Hess-Schulp. She broke her ankle the week of the ride and still managed to put on a great ride with the help of her daughter, Allison and son, Andrew and OCER members who pitched in to help. It was a typical Ozark Mt. ride with steep hills, scenic wooded forest trails, rocks and also a lot of good going. I don't usually like to brag or post ride stories but can't resist this time in reporting that my horse, Texas Dually, won bc the 2nd day of the 50 mile ride. What makes this so special is that he had epm 3 yrs. ago and lost all the muscles on his croup and some on his hip as well. He still doesn't have all his muscle mass back but it doesn't seem to bother him at all. I was amazed at how well he handled the steep hills in the heat and humidity. I was also amazed at how my friend, Susie Jones', 20 yr. old gelding, Lightning, handled the ride the first day. He came from NM and wasn't used to the humidity an d came in 3rd on day one. A special thanks to Genie Wunderlick who let me ride her stallion, Rio, the first day so I could save Dually for the 2nd day since I had a ride I wanted to do in two weeks and didn't want to over do it on Dually. Genie won the 50 mile ride the first day on her mare and I came in 2nd on Rio and he also won bc the 1st day. Susie rode Rio the 2nd day and he came in 2nd and 2nd bc. The 2 day ride had a good turnout and I think everyone had a great time. Thanks to ride manager, Jodi, and the many volunteers and vets who made this ride possible.
