[RC] human electrolytes, was tums - Glenda R. SnodgrassOn Fri, 28 May 2004, Kathy Ramspott wrote:Sorry, I wasn't clear, I meant for us people to take, not for the horses. The basic subject was on what electrolytes people should take for themselves to ward of fatigue. I did a lot of research on and experimentation with human electrolytes last summer, trying to get away from the sugar-loaded drinks like Gatorade. I found two things that work for me. Alacer makes a drink mix called Electro-Mix that has no sugar, just the salts and such. You can add it to flavored drinks of your own or just to plain water, as it has a very very light citrus taste. I buy the packets that make a gallon and mix up a jug at a time that I keep in the fridge and put into water bottles as needed. Hammer Nutrition makes salt capsules called Endurolytes that are excellent. I was worried that they would cause an upset stomach, but they don't, and they _really_ keep me from crashing even in very hot weather when I'm sweating like crazy. After using both these products for quite some time, I like to drink Electro-Mix for light exercise and/or moderate weather, but prefer the Endurolytes capsules with lots of plain water for heavier exercise and hotter weather. -- Glenda R.
