[RC] Camping - sandy . l . holder

My boy had NEVER been tied to a trailer. . . of course, he'd never lived in pasture until 3 months ago (and he's 15 last month, ok). . . so it was pretty funny when one of my riding buddies (older mentor) suggested that that was 'the only way' (Dick was once National Heavyweight Champion I found out) . . of course, this was with the other two horses that my boy's now been out to pasture with learning what being a 'real horse' is all about.  The nuzzle/druel marks on the mare he left were pretty funny looking the next morning but my boy looked ok and I hadn't had to drag out the 30 lbs. of fencing that I had attached to my trailer.  Mind you, I was 'only doing a 25' the next day but it did work.  Now I'm thinking about a high tie system (just to save my arms, etc. from lugging out the 30 lb. 'portable' panels, that are going to make GREAT paddock fencing for my new barn)!  Oh, and I forgot to mention, THE beautiful Quicksilver ride was this past weekend.  When we drove into the valley, it felt (and looked) like we were 100 years back in time.  The folks were so wonderful, the animals so 'different' (so I'd never seen at LEAST 100 baby wild pigs/boars in a meadow before), wild turkey, large deer, did I mention the mountain lion tracks - oops, scratch that. . . trails marked exceptionally (did I already write this?). . . volunteers, LUNCH prepared by a gourmet chef at the away lunch stop ('what would you like darlin'?). . . even a State Park guy to ask if we were going in the right direction (I'm a natural blonde ok?!, and a girl, so I ask for LOTS of direction).. . .

So finally, my boy (this last weekend) finished a 50 (his 3rd actually). . . guess that makes one of us an endurance finisher but he was sure pooped afterward (I was almost dead after having ran 6 - 7 miles down hill from a couple of the peaks), something about being out on trail longer than almost everyone else (did I mention that we were kicked out of ridecamp in the morning and 'dragged the tail' the whole day - ask Scott - he knows, but we rode on a loose rein so it was worth it). . . we both need to do more training, but the good news is, we actually finished and were "fit to continue" - well, at least HE was fit to continue, I was promptly met shortly after the finish line by one of my best riding buddies was a frozen margarita. . . . the world is good. . . riding buddies and a good horse. . . . me, fit to continue - NOT!!!!~

Love this riding my horse thing,
Sandy
