Re: [RC] True Endurance Riders - heidi

I think the real debate here stems from the fact that the term
"endurance ride" is a specific nomenclature used to denote a ride of
a certain distance, and thus, difficulty. From that has sprung the
term "endurance rider", denoting someone who does endurance riding.
Although this is a natural turn of events, as far as I know the AERC
rule book makes no effort to define "endurance rider." Only what an
"endurance ride" is.

Excellent point, Bruce.

Julie Suhr once talked about "endurance riders" who go back to riding LDs
when they can no longer ride endurance rides. I think she said something
to the effect that she would no longer be an endurance rider when she
couldn't do endurance rides, and someone chided her and said no, Julie,
you will ALWAYS be an endurance rider, you just won't be riding endurance
rides.

I think that sums it up, and also covers the distinction that Frank has in
mind. Endurance riders can and do ride LDs. But the day they are riding
an LD, they cannot say "I am riding an endurance ride today."
