Re: [RC] Horses Shot in Newaygo County, MI - Maggie Mieske
Kari,
We need to contact Equine Times and Saddle Up and ask them
to do a story. I would be happy to help you write it if you like or write
it for you. Margaret has a great idea but we need to also get the word out
here in Michigan. Also, I haven't been on Michigan Horse Page in a
while. Did you post anything there? Those folks could be a huge
help!! What do folks think about asking our state's hunting magazines to
do a story? Like Woods n Water, Michigan Outdoors, etc. Seems to me
awareness within the community in which the perpetrators probably belong might
be a place to find leads. Just some suggestions as I have been mulling
this over lately.

Margaret, We should have a bank account set up by tomorrow
and I'll post the information here on the list. I really appreciate your
willingness to do this for our family, it means more than words can express.
Whatever information or details you need for your story, let me know.
I'll post a second time with an update on the mare's
condition.
Thanks Again for all your support!

Kari,
I am the editor of the newsletter for a local horse club (LHOA) here in
Massachusetts. I would like to post this story and ask for donations for the
reward to capture the idiots that did this. What is the address that
donations could be sent to? Why don't you set up a bank account in the name
of the horses and have donations sent directly there?

Sylvia,
We have "reward" on our flyers but have left the actual dollar amount
off because we don't know what we're going to come up with. My husband
and I have a couple hundred to get the ball rolling but my brother and
sister-in-law are going through a financial drain with all the vet
bills. So if I did ask for donations, how would I handle that? Get
everyone's address so we can send money back if we don't catch the
people or designate the money to their vet bills if it isn't used? Can
we just put up donation cans around at area stores or do we need some
special permit or authorization to do that?
TIA

This is so horrible!!! Do you think offering a reward for information
would help? I would donate $50 to the fund if that helps. If you
decide to start a fund, post to Ridecamp and you'll get a ton of
response I'm sure. let me know if you do and I'll send you the $50.
I can't believe how despicable people can be (just watching the news
about the beheading in Iraq, I am heartsick)

Personally, I shouldn't give a s--- where the other people on the course
are, and if I find myself starting to concern myself over this, I remind
myself that this is the first step on the road to overriding my horse and
tell myself to "knock it off!" :)
