Re: [RC] Flax Seed--To Grind or Not? - Mike & Kathy KellyIf you want to get the most benefit from it, grind it and feed it right away. I had heard conflicting advise about whether or not it needs to be ground. When I was in one of my not-grinding stages I decided to examine their manure to look for whole (undigested) flax seeds. Yep, they weren't too hard to find. I'm sure some are digested without grinding, but not all. I feed my mare a cup of flax seed per day. How necessary is it to grind it prior to feeding? Is it OK to feed whole without being ground? And what is the difference nutritionally and such to the horse whether it be ground or not? Just curious so we can get the most benefit from the flax. ============================================================ Of course things aren't perfect, perfect doesn't exist on this earth.
