[RC] Miles and points - Tracey and Roderick

Re Kat's post about "arbitrary" lines being drawn wrt miles....I work in kilometers.  Anything in miles is arbitrary!
 
But seriously, can someone explain to this non-endurance riding lurker just how the points system works in both LD and Endurance?
