Re: [RC] arabian dispersal in kansas - Catfish DanielsTotally agree, Heidi. You're right, it's not time for a debate. When I first read your initial post, I somehow failed to read a paragraph about how YOU intended to help or reach out. It's easy to cast opinions and teach lessons on a forum based on other people's mistakes, but what if they MADE the mistake and now need help? I sure hope to God that this lady is not reading these posts. What a let-down to her. Nothing against you, Heidi - I admire that you have your priorities straight and are taking preventive measures for unforseen circumstances. But we REALLY don't know what she's going through, other than she's asking for some help. Horse aside, did you read the part where she was trying to come up with food money and rent money??? So for humanity's sake, if buying this lady's horses for a few bucks, or helping her find some buyers will put food on the table, then what's wrong with that????? I don't get it. However, while we spend time picking this lady apart on whether she should give away her horses or RIGHTFULLY deserve a bit of cash for her wonderful animals, eleven horses out there are getting skinny.I'm sorry you perceived my post as picking this lady apart. I had hoped I had made it clear that it was to some degree a general commentary on how people get into this situation and how to avoid it. I also thought I made it clear that even though she may "deserve" to get money for these horses (and she likely does) that the urgency of her circumstances (and those of others who have their lives turned upside down for whatever reason) SHOULD make a free home that gets them off the feed bill as attractive as a paid home for an insignificant amount that takes time to materialize. It is the very fact that eleven horses are getting skinnier that prompted my post. This is not the time for a debate about how much they are monetarily worth, or whether there deserves to be money change hands--this is the time that people need to consider ALL options for placement, for the sake of the horses. And this is not aimed specifically at this poor woman--it is a commentary on her all-too-common situation in general. I would also hope that perhaps my comments MIGHT be taken to heart by those who have small breeding operations--the old "there-but-for-the-grace-of-God" bit--and that they might consider whether they have contingencies for such circumstances, should they ever find themselves in similar dire straits.
