[RC] new GPS - LISAhey guys: for xmas I got one of Garmin's new GPS units, the Forerunner 201, designed for runners, primarily, but GREAT for riders. it straps on your wrist; the display and antennae are a single unit, unlike the Timex Ironman. I have very small wrists, and the Forerunner is not too big nor bulky. in fact, I forgot it was there most of the time ... I have another GPS for trail mapping purposes (strap to saddle, ride, link it to the computer at home and see where you've been), but most of the time I'm riding on trails I know, and I really am only interested in how fast (or slow!) I'm going and how far. the Forerunner is perfect for this--it *does* have a map page, but that's definitely not its forte. but it will give you an alarm when you've gone a certain distance (quarter mile, mile, 10 miles, whatever); it will automatically pause when you're stopped; and you can set an electronic "training partner", if you're trying to keep a certain pace, and see at a glance if you're ahead, behind, or right on target. $150, 14 hours of battery life, and then you just plug it into the charger, no changing batteries. I love it!! lisa tech-geek in santa fe NM =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
