Re: [RC] rc Cheaters - heidiI'd like to emphasize the "it's a ride management" side of the issue too. Our ride had a group of folks who came in 30 min or so after the first group of 3 finishers. They immediately usurping the finish area (timers/pr/vets etc) with the announcement that the first three riders had missed trail and were disqualified, couldn't show for BC, etc. totally confusing the vets and volunteers as well as the lead three riders. Well, actually, John, we volunteers and the vets weren't exactly "confused" other than about what to do with the two riders that were trying to usurp things. :-) (The other five involved in the inadvertent shortcut were confused, because they had just followed the first two.) Barney got all the horses judged that should have been judged, and we pretty much just worked around them. <g> And I think the three lead riders were pretty secure in knowing they had done the course. But we WERE all glad to see you come back to camp, so that you could take over and go tell 'em what they had to do to get their completions! :-) (We weren't gonna touch THAT one with a 10-foot pole! <g>) But you and Truman are right--it is a management thing, and management needs to handle it. And management can also learn where there were weak points and plug them on subsequent years.
