RE: [RC] [RC] Trail Judges/Howard - Howard Bramhall

Well, you kind of proved my point there, Jeanne. You knew where you were and who you were following. You also knew that either you went off trail or some others cut it for that to happen.

And, you could have done something about it. I'm sure that you considered that option but, I guess if you don't actually see them cut trail it might be your word against theirs and that might get a little ugly. I would have at least discussed this with the Ride Manager but, hey that's just me, and I wouldn't really care who the rider was, including my gal, Val (who never cheats). You only get one chance at this life and to back off because someone is popular or even famous just wouldn't sit well with me at all.

In fact it would bug me so much I'd probably write about it. I would title it, "So and So Cheated and I can Prove it (Part One)." lol.

I do know, at future rides, I'd be keeping an eye out to make sure that if they did it again I had proof. Hunt them down and ferret them out for the no good cheaters that they are. Otherwise, it would turn one off to the sport and that would be unfortunate to let that happen because of someone who would sink that low. I guess there are some who would do just about anything so they could think of themselves as a winner. How on earth do they even look themself in the mirror after knowing that's the last thing they are?

cya,
Howard

Hey Howard,Just for the sake of argument..I was in a TopTen place(3rd)at a ride years ago when I found myself suddenly in 5th place at the last vet check!Seems 2 VERY well-known riders had cut trail and because of their standing in the club putting on the ride and how "beloved "one of them was...no one said a word but everyone knew..my first taste of the politics involved in some AREC rides.I was pretty green at the time and in awe of the rider who had cut so was just happy to win Best Condition and never went back to that ride.Opened my eyes but didn't spoil the sport for me.Nearly 20 years later I'm still trotting down the trail and still only concerned with having a happy, healthy horse at the end of the day.

The whole ride experience can be very hard, and at times you question why
you put yourself through such abuse. But then you remember all those
moments when you pop up over a hill and are suddenly surrounded by the most
stunning views. It's just you and your horse and for a moment time stops
and you can hear the angels sing. Therein lies the addiction, at least for
me. ~ Leslie Beyers
